It's a Brooklyn thing...

In order to successfully establish a public observatory, it will be necessary to demonstrate to various city departments, civic organizations, members of the general public, and to a number of specific decision-makers that our organization possesses the necessary will, professional talent, leadership skill and regular commitment to shepherd a large-scale project. It will not be sufficient to want an observatory to be realized.

Connect with like-minded enthusiasts...

For those possessing needed skills, a rare opportunity is presented — to become involved at the very inception of a project that will see a great level of public interest in the months and years to come. For those hoping to advance careers in the space sciences or to continue further along an educational path, to work with like-minded professionals and to expand one’s professional network, to capture the rare opportunity to grow in an observatory environment here in the Big Apple, or to perform valuable work in the public interest, there are likely few more ideal circumstances.

Volunteers needed...

We presently seek committed individuals possessing any or all of the following specific, or closely applicable, qualifications:

  • persons with experience introducing and/or maintaining observatory equipment,
  • persons with experience developing and/or maintaining an observatory environment,
  • persons with public-outreach and/or community-organizing experience,
  • persons in established relationships with relevant city departments, organizations, or potential financial donors (Dept. of Parks, local university astronomy departments, Prospect Park Alliance, etc.) willing to serve as connectors or liaisons,
  • graduates of astronomy or astrophysics programs,
  • persons with experience performing observational research,
  • persons with educational experience in astronomy or astrophysics,
  • persons with experience in public financial accounting,
  • professionally licensed architects and structural engineers,
